Its nearly a month since we last posted on our blog so I thought it was time I brought it up to date. Since coming back from half term we have been celebrating Chinese New Year. Ashmead has a link with a primary school in Harbin in the North East of China. We discovered this week that we were all born in either the Year of the Rat or the Pig. We have used Chinese New Year as an opportunity to find out about traditional Chinese arts and crafts. This week we learnt about the ancient art of paper cutting. We discovered there's more to it than the snowflakes we used to make when we were younger. This isn't one of ours but with a bit more practice some of us might just manage it.

chocolate problems

In maths today we were investigating a problem involving chocolate. There was one half of a chocolate bar on one table, one whole chocolate bar on another table and two whole chocolate bars on the final table. We had to pretend that there were ten people waiting outside to get into the classroom and go to the table where they would get the most chocolate. For me it was quite hard being a chocolate hater but anyway we got an A3 piece of paper and had to work out what the tenth person would get. The answer was one third, I got the answer right but Jenny didn't!!!

bye !!!

Aerobics

Today in P.E we did aerobics it was great fun because we got to make-up our own aerobics moves!
It was quite good yet we could have done bench ball (both of us liked it).
In literacy we did our presentations on our peace makers of the world.
Maths was boring as usual.
Science was great because Miss McBryan burned a piece of newspaper and that is quite exiting(for us).

Mystery solution

Today in science we realised what was in our four prediction bowls. Some people were surprised about what the solution had left in the four bowls. The sugar went all gooey in the bowl when the water evaporated. Most of the class said that the sugar was jelly but it was not. The salt came out in bigger crystals than Ms Ingham put in the bowl , people in our class said the salt was pretty because it turned into a nice pattern of crystals, there was one bowl that just had water in it and that bowl was clear. Ms Ingham said that she put poison in one bowl but nobody beliefs her, some people thought it was flour but it can't be flour because flour does not dissolve. We had a really fun day.

Drama

Today in drama,we had a teacher called Elliot.
We played lots of games, which made our minds work.
Some of the games were when Elliott pretended to roll a log towards us and we had to jump or avoid the sword, lights camra action pretending to be celebrities. Another thing we did was to walk around saying,"Hello, how are you today!" to every person that we met.
Eventually,we had to get in to a group of 3s or 4s and make up our own short play to perform to the rest of the class.
We had to make them funny. In the play we had to imagine that we were in the jungle and in the performance had to include slow motion.

After the activity, all of the children and the teacher were very pleased, excited about what they had achieved in the drama season.
Thank you.

The day we beat yr five!

Even though the weather was icy cold, we still beat yr 5 girls at football! And of course they went storming off (such bad losers).
Today was also our first day with Ms Mc Bryan. Mrs Booth went because she just had to have a baby! We think that the baby(s)
are going to be twins, due to the way she got a bit too big! Anyway, today in maths we did (more) division, which I really think I need to work on!
Back to yr 5, the boys let us down because they were beaten by yr 5 boys. I wonder why boys think girls are rubbish at football, because we so beat them! Also the most grimey part off the glum day at school was art because still life is sooooo boring, really who would want to live their life still or look at a picture of somebody living their life still, well we wouldn't.
